Red Sichuan – Canley Vale

WP_20150529_19_16_09_ProThere aren’t a great deal of Hot Pot specialty restaurants in Sydneys south west. So I thought i’d give this one a try.
Red Sichuan -basically offers an all you can eat hot pot option or a la carte option. I went for the Hot Pot.

You have a choice of broths to cook your food in. Mild to Spicy, and a plain chicken broth option too. The medium spicy broth was chosen. It had great depth, and was plenty spicy for medium.

WP_20150529_19_44_36_ProWP_20150529_19_19_49_Pro WP_20150529_19_18_34_ProAn array of options are available.

Sliced beef looks nice when it comes out. But disappointing as it is frozen.

Very cool tea pots.

In summary, The Red Sichuan isn’t too bad of a place to go to for dinner if you are feeling something a little spicy and warm. There are a great deal of options to choose from,  the food tastes alright mostly with the exception of the frozen meat. However the broth is pretty tasty.

The only qualm I had was in regards to the service. The staff were friendly but they didn’t really have the basic hospitality skills. Basic greeting, order taking, etc would go a long way. They did seem a little timid and shy.

Tim Ho Wan

WP_20150404_11_49_17_ProTim Ho Wan is one of the most talked about restaurants in the Sydney food scene at the moment. Having earnt a Michelin Star and being considered one of the cheapest Michelin Star restaurants, it is easy to see what the craze is all about.

So I joined the rest of the food monkeys and joined the eternal queue to tasty food.’

Numerous other restaurants await to help make the waiting time a little less boring.

Mmm, side-ways Mint Frappe.

Finally at the front! Look at all those suckers lining up…

WP_20150404_13_52_42_Pro WP_20150404_13_43_22_Pro

By this point we had been waiting for at least 2 hours now.

I was still pretty hungry even after having those other meals whilst queuing up. I didn’t even bother taking food pics because of this. But if you’ve been to any yum cha you would be familiar with how the dishes look. Their Pork Buns are a little different though – being in a crispy, sweet encasing rather than the traditional steamed style. I prefer the traditional style.

We ordered about 8-9 different dishes, and to be honest Tim Ho Wan falls short of any good Yum Cha or Dim Sum restaurant. Try Vinh Phat in Cabramatta, or almost any Yum Cha around Sydney for better quality and cheaper food.

I was expecting, and wanted to see some good things eating here but I think this one is really over hyped.I honestly don’t understand how this restaurant gets a 4 star review, or receives a Michelin star. Maybe the Hong Kong one and Sydney one are worlds apart?

Sorry Tim Ho Wan fans. I wont be back.

Menulog: Peacock Palace Chinese Restaurant.

We enjoyed some Chinese Takeaway tonight courtesy of Menulog – “No.1 for Online Takeaway”.

1

The process was pretty simple. Punch your postcode or suburb into the search bar above, and it takes you to another page with a listing of various restaurants within your area.

2

The restaurant we decided on was The Peacock Palace Chinese Restaurant in Blacktown.  We went with Banquet 2:  Garlic Chicken, Pork Spare Ribs, and swapped over one of the dishes to a vegetarian stir fried noodle.

The order was estimated to arrive at 7:56.

The order arrived at exactly 7:56 or pretty damn close. Food was still hot, and it came with an extra 1.25L Pepsi, and a bag of Prawn Crackers. Meat dish swapped for Vegetarian dish no problems 🙂

How can you have Chinese food and not have Prawn Crackers right?

Vegan Dim Sims.

I found these to be Mushy and flavourless unfortunately.

Steamed Vegan Buns.

In contrast to my previous visit, I did not enjoy the food quite as much as the last time. Generally I do like the food at Loving Hut. As always the staff are very friendly.

As always I intend to provide more reviews in future.

Went to the Loving Hut: Vegan Restaurant for Dinner.

They serve Vietnamese influenced Vegan cuisine, which is the predominant style of food around the area. The menu does contain things such as chips, and vegan burgers though.

WP_20131207_17_15_25_Pro

Duck (fake meat) wraps with pickled cucumber and carrot with coriander to start. Very delicious. Didn’t realise I wasn’t eating meat.

Vegan Pho Noodles with copious amounts of bean sprouts served on the side. Normally I get the “special beef” Pho noodles, and in comparison the Vegan alternative doesn’t quite match up. They are o.k but not quite as good. I think they tried to intensify the flavour by adding heaps of cardamon which was quite off putting.

Vermicelli Noodles with spring rolls and shredded pork.

Quite tasty. A little dry. Which is offset by some sauce served on the side. Maybe some extra vegies/salad to offset it would be better?

I will be conducting more reviews on this restaurant in the future. 🙂
